Vines rooted on steep terraces, worked entirely by hand. Slate soils and vines over 65 years old yield little, and give wines of rare complexity and balance.
The vineyards of our Montsant are defined by an extreme topography and grueling cultivation conditions, often described as heroic viticulture: vines rooted on steep terraces where every task, from pruning to harvest, must be done by hand. Averaging over 65 years of age, Potente old vines has deep root systems, defying drought to draw nutrients from the subsoil. Yields are low, but the reward is a wine of sublime complexity and balance.
The soils of Potente are a diverse mosaic, dominated by slate, locally known as llicorella, which infuses the wine with a distinct mineral edge. This is balanced by limestone and granite formations that lend finesse, floral nuances, and lift. Today, our identity remains deeply rooted in a profound reverence for our heritage varietals: Garnacha, Cariñena (Samsó), Syrah, and Merlot.
